Demo of Real Life Fire Test On Small Wooden House Coated With Fire Protective Coating by Yew Ming Chian

Yew Ming Chian

This "Dana Prototaip" project is funded by UMCIC. The purpose of this project is to develop prototypes which help us to attract funding, investors and what the prototypes can do to excite investors each time it's displayed.

Background of the project:

Intumescent coating is one of the passive fire protection and are designed to prevent the heat, flames or fire from spreading. This low-cost intumescent fire protective coating has great marketability potential because it is an efficient solution for fire-safety regulation in buildings.

This product is applicable to all industries, since it addresses fire-safety which is of paramount importance in the preservation of lives and assets. Its low cost feature enables the coating to be marketed to the medium-income group onwards and most industries.

The usage of this product improves the fire-safety features of structures which not only increases its value but also protects its occupants. Its function as a passive fire protection is a necessity rather than a luxury and hence the product should have excellent commercial viability.

This is also due to the competitive advantage of being more economical compared to other commercially available coatings. Since the usage of fire protective coatings is not very common in most households and industries in Malaysia at the moment, we would need to study the current demand as well as features that would further encourage investors and industries to invest in this passive fire protection system.

Outcome from the real life fire test:

The wooden house coated with low-cost intumescent coating plays a significant role to insulate the wooden house by reducing heat transfer and prolong the evacuation time for occupants in the event of a fire.
